By Mary Ann Chua

Richard Guttirez to host the SURVIVOR Philippines 3

Survivor Philippines 3

By Mary Ann Chua

Richard Guttierez to host the Survivor Philippines 3

With Paolo Bediones moving to TV5, the management has no choice but to get someone who has a top caliber like that of Paolo. There was a rumor that Ryan Agoncillo would leave Talentadong Pinoy to host for Survivor Philippines season 3 but after a short while another rumor ahs spread throughout the showbiz industry that it would be none other than the sexiest man on the Philippines today, Dingdong Dantes. Today, it is confirmed that Primetime King Richard Gutierrez would be the one who would do the hosting for the third season of the Pinoy franchise.

Everyone is quite aware of the hosting capabilities of Richard Gutierrez since he already done it on a series of earth friendly programs. He has proven that he has the making of a great host during these times. It is said that he would do this, before he will shoot for the 2nd part of Captain Barbell.

The third edition (Survivor Philippines 3) would be different than the two previous editions since this the first time that all of the contestants are all celebrities. Although, we have seen Chris Bolado in the season 2, aside from him, none of his companions is a celebrity.

The long time hit franchise will be hosted by actor Richard Gutierrez because of Paolo Bediones who has done hosting for the past seasons has already left GMA 7.

The celebrities would fight for whooping 3 million-prize money, much bigger than the previous season; to where it would be done is still a mystery.

The Karate Kid remake _ realease on June 2010

Karate Kid' remake screens at Showest with major studio fanfare

By Mary Ann Chua

This year’s Showiest has been a fairly scaled-back affair. Fewer big parties, fewer movies, more business. That wasn’t the case for Sony’s presentation of The Karate Kidlast march 17, however. In addition to the big lunch the studio threw for thousands of attendees, Sony was clearly in it to win it when it came to the movies pre-show. Some of it no doubt had to do with their very important producers, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, waiting in the wings, but even so, this elaborate introduction included drummer and cymbal players, men in masks doing acrobatics, scores of women dressed in Asian garb lining the aisles to the theater, not to mention 12 little karate kids doing their own routine. It concluded with a shower of confetti streaming from the ceiling, carefully missing the studio executives sitting in the lower level. The act looked more like something you’d see at Comic-Con than what’s become the norm at this exhibition convention.

The film itself (which releases this June) is a worthy remake of the 1984 Ralph Macchio classic, and the delegates seemed to love it. Director Harald Zwart (Pink Panther 2, Agent Cody Banks) was able to conquer the majestic scope of China, and stars Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan form a sweet bond. Smith received what is sure to be the first of many awards for his acting when he was honored with Showest breakthrough star of the year. He took the stage in his white sneakers and said, “My dad prepared a speech for me with a bunch of funny stuff in it, but I’m 11 and I’m nervous.”

Karate Kid opens June 11 opposite The A-Team, so it’s no wonder Sony is setting the stage early with exhibition, hoping for the biggest theaters when it bows opposite the action remake of the popular ’80s TV show.

Beyonce Leads the 2010 Grammy Award Nominees
By Ms. Mary Ann Chua

The 52nd annual Grammy Awards belonged to the ladies. While Taylor Swift took home album of the year and three other awards, the night's biggest winner was actually the mighty Beyonce. Beyonce made history at the Grammys on Sunday as she collected six trophies, including song of the year for her anthem "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)," making her the most decorated woman in one night in the 52-year history of the awards show.

The multihyphenate entertainer won her sixth trophy with best female pop vocal for her soaring ballad "Halo." Perhaps she was not aware of her record-setting feat; her acceptance speech was decidedly low key.

"Thank you so much. This has been such an amazing night for me and I'd love to thank the Grammys," Beyonce said in her brief remarks. "I'd like to thank all of the fans for their support over the years."

The Kings of Leon, whose "Use Somebody" trumped her "Halo" to win record of the year, were a bit more entertaining when they picked up their trophy, the family quartet's third of the night.

Beyonce, who in 2004 won five Grammys on the strength of her debut album "Dangerously in Love," a mark tied by the likes of Alicia Keys, Norah Jones and Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse and Alison Krauss, reached that milestone again Sunday en route to the new record. She is the first to reach that mark twice.

She won the songwriting trophy along with three writers for her omnipresent anthem "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)." The superstar also won best R&B contemporary album for "I Am ... Sasha Fierce" among her other awards, and still had the opportunity to win the evening's remaining top award - album of the year.

Lady Gaga, who won two Grammys during the pre-telecast ceremony, kicked off the night with a sequined green leotard with massive shoulders as she sang her Grammy-nominated hit "Poker Face" amid an elaborate stage that included dramatic choreography and pyrotechnics.

Moments later, she scaled things down a bit - as much as Lady Gaga can - and brought out Elton John as they melded her song "Speechless" and his classic "Your Song" together in a performance that featured dueling pianos, and glitter-painted faces.

Taylor Swift, who was second to Beyonce in Grammy nominations with eight nods, won three early awards, including best country album. Though the 20-year-old has won just about every award imaginable over the past year for her best-selling CD "Fearless," she was wide-eyed when she accepted her trophy for country album.

"I just keep thinking back to when you're in second grade and you sing in the talent show for the first time and people joke around and say, 'Maybe we'll see you at the Grammys some day.' But that just seems like an impossible dream," she said. "I just feel like I'm standing here accepting an impossible dream."

Later, she also collaborated with a rock legend: Stevie Nicks joined her on stage as they both sang Nicks' "Rhiannon" and Swift's "You Belong With Me."

The Grammy for best new artist went to the Zac Brown Band, while best rock album went to Green Day for "21st Century Breakdown."

The Black Eyed Peas also had three trophies, as well as Jay-Z, who won for best rap solo performance and two awards for "Run This Town" with Rihanna and Kanye West.

While Rihanna, who was forced to bow out of last year's awards as a performer after being assualted by then-boyfriend Chris Brown, accepted the trophy along with Jay-Z with Beyonce's young nephew in tow. West - who has been keeping a relatively low profile since his dustup with Swift a few months back - was a notable no show.

Maxwell, up for six awards, also won his first Grammys - best R&B male vocal for the ballad "Pretty Wings" and best R&B album for "BLACKsummers' night." The album marked the R&B crooner's return after an absence of eight years from the music business.

While Beyonce has won a caseload of Grammys during her career, she hasn't won album of the year, but that had the potential to change Sunday. The superstar was nominated for album of the year for "I Am ... Sasha Fierce," along Swift's "Fearless," the most popular album of any genre last year.

Rounding out the album of the year category were the Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D.," Lady Gaga's "The Fame" and the Dave Matthews Band's "Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King." The latter album was the band's first release since the death of founding member and saxophonist LeRoi Moore.

Eminem was not stranger to the Grammy’s. he is already a winner for his comeback album 'Relapse.' The 37-year-old rapper's first album in five years beat out Common's sexy electro, hip-hop project 'Universal Mind Control,' Mos Def's critically-acclaimed 'The Ecstatic,' Flo Rida's 'R.O.O.T.S.' and Q-Tip's 'The Renaissance.'
Eminem is the biggest winner in this category, topping Kanye West, who's won three Best Rap Album Grammy Awards. The Detroit-bred emcee has taken home four Grammys in this category throughout his career and has been nominated five times. Em has also won the Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for the 'Relapse' single 'Crack a Bottle.' Eminem is set to take the Grammy stage tonight alongside Drake, Lil Wayne and Travis Barker. Grammy producers declined to reveal specific details about the set, but the rappers will likely perform their collaborative track 'Forever.'

After an eight-year musical hiatus, Maxwell can go to bed tonight knowing his comeback was very much appreciated. The reclusive singer, who disappeared from the music scene after making a big impression with his 1996 debut 'Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite,' won the Grammy for Best R&B Album for 'BLACKsummers'night' and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for 'Pretty Wings.'

Michael Jackson's two eldest children, 12-year-old Prince Michael and 11-year-old Paris, took the stage at yesterday Grammy Awards to accept their father's Lifetime Achievement Award. "We are proud to be here to accept this award on behalf of our father," Prince Michael said. He thanked fans for their support and sent a special thank you to his grandparents for their love and care during the past few tumultuous months. He went on to address his father's passion for the environment, also reminding the audience of the one thing was most important to the late King of Pop.

HOLLYWOOD:Beyonce and Jay-Z Richest Showbiz Couple
by: Mary Ann Chua

Beyonce and Jay-Z have topped the Forbes magazine Hollywood couples rich list for the second year running, making them shiny flecks town’s top-earning showbiz pairing.

The musical man and wife beat the David&Victoria Beckhams and Brad Pitt&Angelina Jolie to the top spot in Forbes' couples Rich List. The musical duo, whose combined earnings in their collective bank account in an impressive estimated $122 million$ (£75.1m) from June 2008 to June 2009. Bigger than any other celebrity couple in the entertainment industry, according to Forbes magazine's new list of Hollywood’s Top-Earning Couples.

Surprisingly, second place went to Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford and his actress wife Calista Flockhart came second on the list, but their estimated combined earnings of $69m (£42.5m) failed to top Beyonce's earnings alone.
After a big year that saw her releasing an album, touring and starring in and co-producing the movie Obsessed, Beyonce made the lion's share, amassing a huge £53.9m.

The hip-hop duo out-earned the third placer none other done BrAngelina According to Forbes, Pitt had one of the biggest hits of his career with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Jolie has “embraced her inner action hero” by shooting 2008’s Wanted and the upcoming film Salt. And The Beckhams and Will&Jada Smith for the top spot.

The Forbes Magazines spoke to agents, managers, producers and lawyers to took into the account of the celebrities’ couples earned.( Movies, touring, album sales and endorsements were all taken into account.)

Forbes' top five earning couples:
1. Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles - $122m
2. Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart - $69m
3. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie - $55m
4. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith - $48m
5. David and Victoria Beckham - $46m

No one should be surprise Beyoncé brought home most of the bacon with approximately $87 million, while Jay-Z, who co-created (and later sold) clothing brand Roca wear, and is a co-owner of the New Jersey Nets NBA team and upscale sports bar 40/40, wasn’t too shabby as an earner, either (his haul: a cool $35 million).

The mind simply boggles at the thought of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s $122 million whopper revenue. But the twosome may be feeling the economy’s pinch after all, if you check what they made the previous year (June 2007 to June 2008). On that edition of Forbes’ wealthiest celeb couples list, they also placed first -- but with combined income of $162 million. So in just a year their income actually dropped about $40 million. An economic downturn for sure, but somehow, we’re certain Beyoncé and Jay-Z will manage that.
